Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm lived, learned and interacted in six cities: Hanau, Steinau an der Strasse, Marburg and Kassel as well as in Göttingen and Berlin. However, they have also left behind traces in numerous other towns and rural communities in Hesse and elsewhere. The GrimmHeimat North Hesse and the German Fairy Tale Route invite you to discover them.
"To Steinau went also the son of Pastor Friedrich, my grandfather Philipp Wilhelm Grimm..." (Herman Grimm)
"In Kassel they gained the position of librarian at the Hessian State library..." (Herman Grimm)
"HEIMAT, the country or perhaps only the region in which one was born or had an abiding residence " - German Dictionary of Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm
The world fame of the Grimms fairy tales gave the impulse for establishing the German Fairy Tale Route. From Hanau to Bremen since 1975, you are invited to walk in its tracks.
The famous Georg-August University was the workplace of the Grimm brothers. They founded Gottingen's excellent reputation as a town of scholarship, which is shaped by more than 1000 years of town history.
